Susan Parker

“Safe in the arms of Jesus “

“Safe in the arms of Jesus “

Sue was born in Birmingham in 1953, the year of the Queen’s coronation. She lived in Northfield in Birmingham until she was 40. It was by the farms then, but now it is built up. It has become more dangerous since Sue moved away!

Sue’s parents were Muriel Florence and Joseph and Rosalind was her younger sister. She was brought up for a while in the Salvation Army but they closed and it was 12 miles into the city, so it was too far to go. Sue’s dad died when she was 27.

Sue left school in 1968. She loved her days as a hippy, but was a hippy without the drugs, flowers and the skirts. When Sue left school it went from a secondary modern to a comprehensive. At that time girls didn’t do trigonometry but sewing was taught. One time in class Sue was working hard on square roots and the teacher said, “I’ve been giggling at you, there’s a button on your calculator that does all that!, One time when Sue was having driving lessons, the instructor asked her what the sign was that they had just passed, and Sue replied, ‘Potatoes £1 a bag’.

She trained as a florist college and in a shop and got all the City and Guilds Certificates and a Florist’s diploma. Sue was a Florist for most of her life.

Sue lived at home till her marriage in 1972, when she was 18. She had Craig at 20.Chris was born in 1974, Nicole in 1990 and Alan in 1994. She married twice and moved to Crewe with her second husband in 1993.

Sue deeply loved her grandchildren, Freya, Joseph, CobyJai and Dylan.

Sue had her own business on Crewe market and also at age 50 went back to Dane Bank College to do G.C.S.E English Literature, History, Maths and Computers. She lived on Catherine Street at that time, Which is where we first got to know the family. Nicole was doing the same history course as her mum!

Sue said a seed was planted when she was in Catherine Street and God had plans for them. Then 3 years ago, Sue had been saying she wanted to go to church and was asking,”Where are Phil and Emma?” She spoke to Chris at CAP and he told her about Hope Church. One Sunday she decided to go, Nicole came too and never l0oked back.

The year before this, Sue was walking through Crewe during the Love Crewe mission week and someone offered to pray for her. She asked if they would pray for Nicole instead as She wasn’t able to have children. A year later she found Phil at the outreach table and said Nicole was having a baby and she knew it was God who had answered prayer.

A few weeks after Sue and Nicole first came to Hope Church. It was the Love Crewe mission in 2017.Sue felt urged to respond to the message that was preached about giving her life to Jesus. That night, She walked in on sticks and never used them again, until very recently. That same month Sue was given her diagnosis, that she had 3 months to live, that she wouldn’t see Dylan born in the September in 2017. She said, “I don’t know how anyone could get through this sort of thing without God in your life”.

The past 3 years have been ‘totally amazing’, Sue’s words! The lung cancer was removed, even though that morning the surgeon said he wouldn’t do it. But he did and it wasn’t the cancer he thought. Sue had chemotherapy. At one point her platelet level was 81. 2 weeks later it had gone down to 19, so she had a transfusion and it only went up to 45, then dropped to 27. Then Sue asked for prayer and her level went up to 171!! She knew that God answered prayer and so many called her a miracle.

Sue was baptised on October 8th 2017 and the boys were also dedicated.

Sue will be sadly missed, I’ll never forget praying for her and Nicole in our Street Outreach. What a blessing she was, and such fun. I will miss her dearly, but am assured of meeting her again. She gave her life to Jesus, and now He holds her in His loving arms.

Sue was quite simply the best! We were so privileged to have her in our church family for 3 years or so. She sang and praised her way through her illness sharing Jesus with anyone who would listen. She knew how to keep the faith through her struggles and taught us so much about persevering with joy. She was hilarious constantly making us laugh, telling us funny stories from her hospital visits. Somehow she got me to agree to camp with her this summer – on the condition she stayed with us till then. Sadly that’s not to be now. We will miss her so very much but we know she is dancing in heaven.

Sue was a treasure to get to know. She definitely was funny but she had determination to use her talents, her time and love to impact people around her. She was full of faith and stories of answered prayers encouraged the church congregation and bore witness to Jesus. She certainly knew Jesus and is now with Jesus.

She loved everyone she knew with every inch of her being, especially my brother Nathanael, who she called “my Nathanael”. She made such an impact on so many people’s hearts and she strived to tell anyone and everyone about the love of Jesus that she so personally knew. Now she’s safe in the embrace of the Lord and it brings us all immense joy and thanksgiving to remember and honour the most beautiful woman that Sue was.
