"Memories are precious, they don't go away. We think of you always, not just today"

Date passed: 19th of August 2018

“Memories are precious, they don’t go away. We think of you always, not just today”

Peacefully at home on Sunday 19th August, Tommy aged 84 years of Crewe.

The dear husband of Della, a beloved dad of Tina, Tracie, Sonya and Kelly. Also a cherished grandad, great grandad and good friend to many.

Tom was born on 21st November 1933 in Nantwich. Tom had a twin sister, Veronica and four other siblings, Bob, Morris, Betty and Jack, all now sadly deceased. Unfortunately Tom’s mother passed away when the twins were only two so his dad, Jack had to bring the kids up on his own.

When he was 19 years old he joined The Black Watch and was stationed in Malaysia, where he got wounded in the leg by some shrapnel.

After leaving the army he became a long distance lorry driver, then he worked as a bus driver for Crosville before ending up working on the railway as a guard.

Tom met his future wife, Della at Crewe town hall, they spent time in the cinema and the local pubs. Tom asked Della for her hand in marriage for six years on the run until she finally said yes, and on 4th March 1966 they finally tied the knot.

Once married they lived for a while with Della’s mother, Nancy, eventually getting their own place in Priscilla Street before moving to Eddinsborough Place in Crewe.

Tina, their first born came along not long after they married, followed by Tracie, Sonya and Kelly. The family had many happy memories of numerous seaside holidays together.

Tom enjoyed a game of dominoes in the North Ward Club and sampling a pint or two with his friends at the Malls Club and his local.

He retired at the age of 59 from the railway and with his time he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, meeting his old friends at The Horseshoe and walking his beloved dog, Holly.

Tom was a lovable character, although everyone said he was not happy unless he was moaning!

He was loved by everyone and will be sadly missed by all the family.

Tommy’s funeral will take place in Crewe Crematorium ChapelĀ  on Friday 31st August at 10am, any donation in his memory will be gratefully received for Cancer Research UK.
