Violet “Vi” Pullan

"Your life was one of kindly deeds. A helping hand for others needs."

Date passed: 4th of February 2018

Funeral date: 16th of February 2018

“Your life was one of kindly deeds. A helping hand for others needs.”

On Sunday the 4th February, Violet slipped peacefully away after a three year struggle with illness. Vi was brave and had lived a full life. She was 89 years old. The beloved wife of Jack, much loved mum of Pauline and Lynda, cherished nan of Claire, Johanna, Ruth, Philip and Andrea. Also a devoted great nan, dearest sister of Dave, Ken and the late Barbara and good friend to many. Some may remember her exceptional service to Leighton Hospital. Violet will be so sadly missed by all her family and friends.

Vi was born in Bath, her first marriage to Ray was desolved and she later married Jack in 1969. Leaving Bath, Jack and Vi settled near Stockton-on-Tees then moved later to Middlesbrough where Vi worked in the pathology lab at the General Hospital and Nunthorpe Hospital.

When Ray’s job brought him to the Stoke area, Vi was not keen and they bought a house in Crewe. She didn’t plan on staying here for long but she soon settled. Vi worked at Leighton Hospital for 27 years as a phlebotomist retiring in 2004.

In her spare time she made hundreds of soft toys and then progressed onto making wedding dresses with Pauline and got to the stage where they were turning orders down as they were so successful.

Vi has travelled to many exotic places and seen some wonderful sights, such as India and the Taj Mahal, China and the Terracotta Army, Nepal and Mount Everest, Canada and the Rocky Mountain Railway, Alaska and a train journey to the Klondyke to dig for gold. She also enjoyed many cruises to the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Norway and the Arctic Circle.

Vi’s funeral will take place on Friday 16th February at 3.20pm in Crewe Crematorium Chapel, followed by cremation. Donations are welcome to Prostrate Cancer Research and The Christie Hospital.

I started work at Leighton fresh out of school in the path lab office in the early 70’s. Vi was an inspiration to me, a mother figure and one of the sweetest person’s that was my pleasure to meet. It was with a heavy heart that I found out about Vi’s passing only recently, therefore I am so grateful that I bumped into her some months ago and was able to hug and catch up a little with such a beautiful person. She is in my heart forever as a blessing in my life…yasy xxx
