William “Alan” Heath

"Memories are something no one can steal."

Date passed: 19th of December 2018

Funeral date: 7th of January 2019

“Memories are something no one can steal.”

Alan passed away peacefully in the care of Leighton Hospital on the 19th December, aged 81 years after a brave battle against a prolonged illness.

The beloved husband of Audrey, much loved dad of Paul and Jane and dearest brother of Brian. Alan will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by everyone who knew him.

Alan was born on the 8th January 1937, to parents William and Kate, and was one of five children, He attended West Street Primary School, followed by Ludford Street Secondary, where he excelled at metalwork and handycrafts – something that would continue throughout his life. After leaving school, Alan started an apprenticeship at Crewe Railway works, as a machinist, but he was made redundant upon completion and decided to apply for a job as a driver (even though he did not have a driving licence!) He soon passed his test – in two weeks! By the time he retired in 1993, he was depot foreman.

In 1957 Alan met his lovely Audrey, in Queens Park. They married a year later at North Street Methodist Church followed by the honeymoon on the Isle of Wight. On their return moving to their home in Merrill’s Avenue. Paul and Jane followed in 1961 and 1964 to complete their happy family. The family had many happy european holidays together. Alan was also close to his nephew, Alan, and they had many phone chats and visits together. Alan took his uncle to collect his new motor home, which was probably his last long journey, which he talked about for weeks afterwards. Alan was a handyman and helped Paul and Jane with renovations on their houses, as well as updating his own home.

Over the past few years, Alan has struggled with his health, visiting some of the most respected medical specialists in the country. In 2014 he spent 3 months in North Staffs hospital recovering from sepsis. On his return home Audrey did the most incredible job of caring for him, along with help from Paul and Jane.

Alan’s funeral will take place on Monday 7th January in the Crematorium Chapel, Crewe at 12.40pm, followed by cremation.

Donations in his memory may be given on behalf of St. Luke’s Hospice.
