Yvonne Atkinson
“Her love is like an island in life’s ocean, vast and wide”
Yvonne was born on 15th October 1930 and lived most of her young life at the family grocery shop in Crewe.
Her mother ran the shop and her father ran a separate fish and chip shop. Both shops did very well due to their close proximity to the Rolls Royce Car factory and Crewe Railway Works.
During the war, Yvonne was to be evacuated to Canada but very fortunately she missed the boat and subsequently that boat sank in the Atlantic on its way to Canada. So that boat was well worth missing. Thankfully she was later evacuated to a safer location.
That was the only boat she ever missed though, as Yvonne & her husband, Scott, went on lots of cruises later in their life and she didn’t miss one of those boats. Scott always used to say, she was never ever late for a holiday, she was always the first up.
Yvonne met Scott just after he came home from the war in 1947. She was working in Nursery Land in Crewe and he used to drive past in the meat wagon and wave to her. He knew how to woo a girl that man. Of course she completely ignored him and even refused to take his calls. She pretended to be someone else when she picked up the phone to him. But his persistence paid off and they were to be married in 1952.
They had two children, David & Caroline & enjoyed their grandchildren, Vicky, Daniel and Charlotte.
Throughout their 65 years of marriage, they were real soul mates, companions, each others best friend. Totally devoted to each other and totally supportive of each other through thick and thin. They experienced the highs and lows of their life together, but always with a great sense of humour. They made each other laugh endlessly.
They travelled the world together, to places like New Zealand, Australia, all over the USA etc. and took in the pyramids in Egypt which fascinated them both.
Yvonne did a lot of fund raising work for the Cancer Research charity and the annual coffee morning which she hosted for 17 years was legendary and popular with many people from all over Cheshire. She was a great hostess, and held many parties and dinner parties. They were real party animals and really enjoyed people`s company and the social side of life.
She moved to her cosy flat in Richmond Village a few months after Scott passed away and she quickly settled into a new way of life. Although it was a huge change she really enjoyed her last two years there and one of the main reasons for that were the staff who looked after her so well.
A number of friends and family were able to spend quality time with Yvonne in Richmond Village before she sadly passed away on 22nd October 2020 aged 90 years.
Her funeral is to take place on Wednesday 4th November 2020 at St Chad’s Church Wybunbury.
Yvonne such a privilege to have met you. Such a kind, gentle and well loved beautiful lady. Well younger than your 90 years. The courtyard isn’t the same without you there, either outside catching the rays, making your way to the car or bringing home new plants. As I walk by your apartment it will take a lot of getting used to not seeing you for a wave or a chat Carry on cruising with your much loved husband. Together again xx
